BEFORE THE FIRST MEETING

Things to Consider Before Meeting Our Landscape Designer

1.) Gather ideas with all involved parties, decide on your goals.

If there is more than one person involved in the decision making process, try and get your mutual thoughts written down. We are generally available to meet on the weekends. We will briefly walk the yard, to get a feel for the scope of your project and get an accurate price for a design proposal.

2.) Think of a dollar range for your landscape investment.

Knowing your budget allows us to design a landscape that isn’t over or under designed, that might result in surprises and redoing. Also, a plan allows you to install your landscape in phases as your budget allows. Starting a project with your project with your first priority…with the rest to follow is a great way to get to know each other, build trust and before the whole project is tackled.

After discussing the scope of your project we should be able to estimate the number of hours it will take to complete your design and present you with a design proposal. We realize that you want to put your money into your landscape and not the design, so we try to keep the design time minimal, while still maintain effective communication so there aren’t surprises. Always choose the best designer, not the cheapest design.

An estimate is what you do when you know what you want; a design is what you do to find out what you want.

3.) Think of your timeframe for designing and installing your landscape.

Winter and summer are generally slower times for us and good time to contact us about a design. Knowing that you are ready to commit to a design or install with some company before we visit, is appreciated.

4.) Locate a survey or a plot plan of your property.

Having a hardcopy survey plan from your home closing will shorten the design time and save you money. If you don’t have a copy, check with Wake County records or your closing attorney.

5.) Check with your homeowner’s association.

If you are part of a homeowners association, ask them for a copy of any regulations, and how often they meet, before we meet. Knowing what’s involved, will help us give you a more accurate price on your design proposal and prevent any potential violations.

6.) View our web site www.renzlandscapes.com.

Before we meet, review our web site to see photos of our work, understand how we work, and get educated on the landscape industry. We also have posted a list of references of past projects….they welcome your emails or any form of contact.

7.) View the attachments we have sent you.

We generally email, beforehand, a sample of a ‘Design Agreement’ and a sample of a ‘Landscape Proposal’.
